Papers of a Boston man engaged in shipping ventures, importing and exporting, lending money, during the period of the American Revolution and immediately after. Jones was in partnership with Thomas Lee from 1774 to 1782, and worked at various times with M.M. Hays, Henry Jackson, Patrick Jeffrey, and Joseph Russell. A large amunt of material concerns law suits over notes which Jones and some others had endorsed. Because of these notes, Jones acquired interests in the North American Land Company, a canal at Bellows Falls, Vermont, lands in Georgia and in Mississippi. The shipping papers, arranged by name of ship, are probably the most useful part of the collection.
